Merola Opera Program Announces 2014 Summer Festival Programming
|
Founded in 1957 and named for San Francisco Opera’s founder, Gaetano Merola, the Merola Opera Program is widely recognized as one of the most prestigious operatic training programs in the world. Led artistically by Sheri Greenawald, the program is an independent nonprofit organization which operates in collaboration with the San Francisco Opera. With more than 800 applications for approximately 30 positions, Merola Opera Program artists are featured performers in concert “scenes” programs and staged operas created specifically for their talents; participate in master classes and private coachings with opera luminaries; and receive training in operatic repertory, foreign languages, diction, acting and stage movement. Merola Opera Program continues to supports its graduates at the start of their career through its unique Career Grant program. For a full five years after gradu ation, singers are eligible to apply for grants to fund specific role coaching, intensive language lessons, audition travel and preparation, lessons and more. The San Francisco Opera’s Adler Fellowship program is comprised solely of Merola Opera Program graduates. (learn more)
