Renowned Tuscan Painter Domenico Monteforte Featured In San Francisco Solo Exhibition in May 2012

Monteforte studied closely with Italian artist Umberto Buscioni at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara, where he was profoundly influenced by artists such as Pontormo, Ennio Morlotti, Giorgio Morandi and Carlo Carrà. A brief stint in the Italian Navy followed his graduation and fortuitously brought the painter to Sicily and the Aeolian Islands, sparking an exploratory series of paintings focused on the visceral Southern Italian landscapes and the slopes of Mount Etna. A 1992 exhibition of these works in Florence was a critical and financial success allowing the painter to expand his exhibitions to Milan, Venice, Rome and Madrid. Monteforte speaks of this time in his life…“Things just simply started happening, without forcing or pushing them, which reinforced that this was truly my path. It was the most beautiful feeling, like a dream that was finally coming true.” Since that inaugural triumph in 1992, career highlights and milestones have included the 2005 purchase of three 80 x 120 cm. works for the Palazzo Madama Art Gallery by the President of the Italian Senate. In 2007, Monteforte presented a work called “L’albero della vita” [The Tree of Life] to the Pope in St. Peter’s Square, Rome. Three years later, Monteforte was honored with the 2010 Castruccio Award, presented in the same halls of Cararra’s Academy of Fine Arts where he had graduated twenty years earlier. (learn more)
